Are summer leafy vegetables difficult to grow? Use insect net

By Zigzagwire, Oct 13, 2022, 8:23 AM

The insect net is ventilated and ventilated, the temperature in the shed will not be too high, and the vegetables can grow normally. There are three ways to cover insect nets.

Cover the insect net directly after sowing

After harvesting the previous vegetables, remove the old leaves discarded during picking, and after ploughing, remove the roots and stems again. If the soil is left dry for more than 7 days, the eggs and pupae will die due to ploughing, sun exposure and dehydration, and the underground pests will also die if they have no living roots to eat.

After sowing, lay a 29-mesh insect net to prevent outside pests from entering. The net should be loose, and the growth space of vegetable seedlings should be reserved. Watering can be poured directly on the net. It needs to be pulled up and thinned in the middle, and then it is covered after completion. The following are two plots that were sown after 7 days of drying. One plot was covered with 29-mesh insect nets, and the other was not. Observed 10 days after emergence. The ones covered with insect nets grew better.

If the mesh of the insect net is too large, it will affect the ventilation and light transmission, and if the mesh is too small, it cannot block small pests. We have previously carried out insect loading experiments and found that the 29-mesh insect net is the most suitable for the cultivation of most leafy vegetables, and can block flea beetles, spotted flies, aphids and larger vegetables that cause heavy losses to most leafy vegetables. Moths, cabbage caterpillars, etc.

Build a low shed

Go to the steel bar store to buy galvanized steel bars with a length of 6 meters and a diameter of about 1 cm. They are processed and bent into a door shape with a height of about 1.6 meters and a width of about 2.8 meters. Insert the steel bars into the soil for about 30 cm, about 1.3 m on the ground, with an interval of 2.5 m, and cross the steel bars at both ends of the ridge to enhance the stability, and then cover the insect nets.

Construction of simple insect proof net greenhouse and its insect proof use

Considering that the insect-proof net is very light, we have developed two types of simple insect-proof net greenhouses. One is that there is no steel pipe on it at all, and only the plastic steel wire is used to hold the insect-proof net. The construction method is: every 4 m, 3 m long, The hot-dip galvanized square tube with a wall thickness of 2.5 mm or more is driven into the ground for 0.8 m, and three circles of plastic steel wire with a diameter of about 2 mm are wrapped around the periphery to prevent the net from being blown into the ground by the strong wind. The upper end of the matching steel pipe is passed through the plug with a plastic steel wire, and a 29-mesh insect-proof net is put on. The lower end of the net is buried in a pre-digged small trench with a depth of about 20 cm.

The difference between another simple insect-proof net greenhouse and the above is that the top of the greenhouse is supported by steel pipe and plastic steel wire to hold the insect-proof net. This type of simple insect-proof net greenhouse can be used to grow leafy vegetables, as well as cowpeas, cucumbers and other climbing types. When planting climbing types, there is no need to set up a frame, and the plastic-steel wire hanging rope above is used for climbing.

Notes

Insect-proof nets will affect ventilation, and diseases are prone to occur in the rainy season. One is to do a good job of drainage, the other is to plant in high ridges to prevent flooding and rotten roots, and the third is to harvest in advance.

Jumping armor has strong hunger resistance. If there are residues in the net, it can be controlled by hanging a yellow board.

During the drying period, if moths are found in the shed, some will lay their eggs on the net before they starve to death. Carefully check the net for egg masses. If there are, remove the egg masses and take them out of the shed.
